A piece of the Story

The wind picked up, throwing warm, summer rain into our faces. Brown grass stuck to our clothes and arms. "I love the wind," I murmured.

Demetri, who was laying next to me, propped up on his elbow, picked up a strand of my hair, and twirled it around his finger, making it a perfect ringlet. "Why?" he asked, amused.

"Well my mom used to tell me that it brought fairies when I was little, so it has always felt sort of magical," I answered, closing my eyes and letting the rain drench my face. I waited for him to laugh at me, but after a few moments of silence I peeped an eye open.

Demetri was looking at me with an anxious sort of curiosity. "Do you believe in fairies?"

I laughed lightly and closed my eyes again. "Sure..."

A few more minutes of easy silence, and then, " So about that date tonight," Demetri said slowly, " Are you going to turn me away again, or will you save us both the awkward silence and just make it official?"

More silence.

"Sure." I said easily, still with my eyes closed, smiling.

Remember, this is my very first draft, and has hardly been revised from paper to blog... :)
